Fun policies

The lead engineer just created a new policy:

Whoever checks in a file (specifically a project or solution file) that breaks the build must display Windows Game Programming for Dummies in a prominent place in his cube for a week.

I'm curious if anyone else has similar policies where they work.

We used to have a build breaker flag. Our offices were of the cubicle variety. When you broke the weekly production load build, you would have to fly the build breaker flag over your cube until the next person broke the load.

Where I used to work, they were pretty tolerant of mistakes. But if someone proved to be really inept and did it a lot, they got promoted.

It's funny, even though you get a little public humiliation for breaking the build, it's actually a morale booster. We all got a good laugh when the first victim was given the book of shame. He's a good sport and laughed at it too. In a small group of 8 programmers working hard on two games, tempers can flare. This adds a bit of levity to the office.
