      I haven't had a chance to read it yet but David Ebert is my professor for an OpenGL course I am taking at Purdue. Later in the semester I am going to see if he has a copy of it that I could borrow and take a look at.

      He seems so far to know a lot about this stuff and he is a decently good teacher so hopefully his work on the book will be equally as good.

      I own 2nd Ed and used it for developing my undergraduate thesis.

      My thoughts:

      1. Not for the faint-of-heart or mathematically-challenged

      2. Examples focus primarily on the Renderman shading language, so best read with the RenderMan Companion or Advanced Renderman

      3. Knowledge is power: you can do some really cool stuff with procedural textures
