Hello all I am curious if anybody else has moved to windows 10 and tried to compile the code from the book? I just decided to install windows 10 and started playing around and attempted to compile the code from the book and see how everything runs. My first impression is that I cant get it to run, the game compiles without any errors but when it tries to run I get a Failed creating Direc3D Device error message. I'm going to work my way through the code and hopefully find whats causing this but I was just wondering if anybody else has run into this and maybe could save me the time of hunting down the culprit.

I upgraded to Windows 10 last night and ran into the same error.
The "solution" was to install the recently released VS2015. After I installed it, both the VS2010 and the VS2013 solutions ran fine.

EDIT: I uploaded the code to a new branch on GitHub. The 3rd party libs are available at Dropbox.

    • I'm not planning on upgrading to Windows 10 anytime soon. My rule-of-thumb is to wait about a year before upgrading to a new OS.

      How are you liking it?

    • I don't know what I would do if I couldn't ask Cortana to "Tell me a bedtime story".

I like it so far; in particular, font rendering looks nicer.
      That…

The new virtual desktops are very useful, it's getting closer to a mac/linux, but still not done well yet.
Start menu is normal again, and not made for phones :)
